Design and installation of Untitled Broken Men (2023) by Rashid Johnson. The artwork was donated by a University of Illinois Board of Trustee member and required to be exhibited in a public space with high visibility to students. A niche within a student residence hall was converted into a state-of-the-art alcove that met the artwork’s security and ventilation requirements and clad with a 11 ft. tall glass panel with anti-glare film to match the existing rhythm of wood veneer panels. The niche lets the one-of-a-kind artwork blend into a wall full of closet doors, fire alarms, security cameras, and student message boards as if it were part of the institutional background.
